Medication Management

Medication Management

For some people – especially for those living with chronic conditions, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and sleep disorders – the support of a therapist may not be enough. In these circumstances, medication is often used alongside therapy to help you manage your condition.

About Medication Management

Finding the optimal balance for your mind and body is our number one priority during medication management sessions. Medication in the mental health world is far different than treating a sore muscle. It isn’t enough for our prescribers to simply know your condition to prescribe medication. Everyone’s brain is different and reacts differently to medication. Since our primary goal for medication is positive mood changes, evaluating how your mood is affected by a number of different medications may be needed to find the regiment that is right for you. Our clinic widely uses Pharmacogenomic Testing for select patients to help decrease the number of medication trials prior to finding a treatment approach that would be optimal for you. Please read more on pharmacogenomic testing at GenetSight Website.
First, you will undergo a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Then, before writing a prescription, our providers will spend time understanding your specific issues and needs. Finally, when you begin psychiatric medications treatment, the provider may require lab tests and intermittent in-person checkups.

Your treatment plan may combine traditional medication management, nutritional recommendations, lifestyle changes, and one-on-one brief therapy sessions. Your mood is affected by a wide array of complex stimuli, from hormones to food to external events. Adding a medication can help nudge things in the right direction, but lifestyle changes are almost always a major part of the recovery.
If you are currently struggling with a mental health condition that you feel you cannot control with therapy alone, you are not alone. Schedule an appointment with one of our PMHNP providers and let us help you gain more control over your health.

Substance use disorders:

Substance abuse or addiction is a clear symptom of a larger mental health problem that requires serious intervention. Our providers have experience working with people in short and long-term recovery from methamphetamine, cannabis, opioid, and alcohol use disorders.

Our providers understand the importance of co-occurring mental health conditions. Treating a substance abuse problem begins with identifying what is causing it and developing a care regimen to handle that past trauma or current stress.

Vancouver ADHD and Mood Clinic PLLC however, DOES NOT provide active detox or opioid use disorder Medication Assisted recovery (MAR). If you or a loved one is struggling with a serious substance abuse problem, please seek professional help. You are loved and deserve to be healthy and happy without the use of a dangerous substance.
